Anne Chapman Casting and The Univ. of Richmond Dept. of Theatre and Dance are seeking two bilingual (English/Spanish) Actors Equity Association actors to play the roles of Mami and Papi for a production of How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents.

Compensation Per Equity Theatre Guest Artist Tier 3 Contract: $603/week
Housing and transportation provided for non Richmond actors
$196/week per diem
No in person auditions will be held.  

Storyline:

Based on Julia Alvarez' critically acclaimed, best-selling novel, Karen Zacarias' play follows four sister who emigrate from the Dominican Republic to New York in 1960 because of political strife and personal danger caused by the governmental situation in their homeland.  These newly arrived immigrants must adjust to a new life and a new culture while meeting the challenges that are a part of growing up.  This wonderfully bilingual production mixes all the elements of good theatre with a compelling story to produce an exciting evening of thought provoking entertainment.

SEEKING THE FOLLOWING ROLES (author's descriptions):

[PAPI] Plays 55-60. the patriach, strong and dignified, loves his girls, has traditional views as to morals and behavior, intolerant of non-Dominican values, a successful doctor who flees the Trujillo dictatorship for political reasons, faces humiliation in bringing the family to New York where he must re-establish his credentials and reputation.

Must be English/Spanish bilingual.

[MAMI] Plays 45-55. the mother, the child-raiser, the glue of the family unit, fond of aphorisms, protective but supportive of the girls' growth and liberation, comes from a privileged Dominican family but tries hard to become an American mother.

Must be English/Spanish bilingual.
